First page of Chapter 1:

It was neither yesterday, nor tomorrow and yet, it was not today. Aliki knew that thinking this, at the very least acknowledging this little rainbow followed by the dark cloud, will only worsen the depths of her despair. Yet, caring has long gone left her and this was all she could ponder.

She has been trying to pour words into the flames of her thinking as she sipped on the only cheap red wine the small shop in town had to offer. It was at that very moment when there was a knock on the door. Aliki was not frightened. She had been in this cabin in the woods for more than three weeks now. Well, three weeks and one day and 7 hours. She had become accustomed to every sound this wooden structure she called home could possibly make, every crack and howl nature could throw at her. But knocking on a door, that was odd. Odd and peculiar and yet, yet it did not frighten Aliki. She had become fearless in her desolate fear. She stood up from where she was sitting infront of her typewriter with a blank page silently resting, just waiting for words to spread like a disease over its blankness. The knock was there a second time, this time louder. Aliki took small steps towards the too big door and just stood behind it , waiting for a third knock. Nothing happened. She placed her ear against the door as she heard footsteps climb down the four steps that led to the front door. She was startled when she heard the knock at the back door. Calling out ‘who is it’ seemed stupid. So stupid, that she had to do it, cause there was simply nothing else to do.
